The organic forms of the artworks and an exhibit of pre-Columbian art in the basement of the building inspired me to make Ecuador. As a starting point for the process I purchased two bananas imported from Ecuador from the local mall and scanned the barcode.

I began reading Virgil's "Georgics", a 1st Century epic agricultural poem, and knew immediately that I needed to create a visual equivalent about my own relationship to the place where I live, New York City. The film is culled from material I collected at Coney Island, the Lower East Side, Socrates Sculpture Garden in Queens, a Brooklyn community garden and a place on Staten Island that is so dark you can see the three moons of Jupiter. It is a homage to a place many people affectionately and mysteriously call the big apple.

In Memories at the Banff Springs Hotel, I am asking random people if they could share a special memory with me. I do not specify what the memory should be; this is left open to their interpretation. With this piece I was also interested in the construction of a memory. The last person whom I speak with appears to be constructing a memory in order to continue this interaction with me. He has to pause and think hard about his memory, leaving me to question if this was an actual memory or something that he has adapted or restructured during our conversation. How much of this memory is referencing an actual event. I am interested in how memories can change overtime in response to people's ongoing experiences and circumstances. Memories appear to at least be partially constructed in response to people's fears, wishes, and desires.

The piece called "The Encounter" was made at "Mount Saint Vincent University Art Gallery", 2008. In this piece I have asked participants to describe a special place/location. I previously created a series of plaster objects, which were given in exchange for each interaction I performed. After these conversations I gave a souvenir that I have produced as a gift for them. In exchange for his or her memory I offered each interlocutor a small plaster sculpture that was about the size of a hand-held mobile device. (Each sculpture was unique and based on a commonplace object such as a dime-store figurine or an ornate light switch-plate, altered in accordance with the way I believe memory functions to distort recollected experiences.) This piece reflects upon its own failures to “connect” and thus gains distance from its overt subject matter.

"The Reapers" is a short documentary film on traditional pigeon hunters, concealed in their tower hide, deep in an oak forest in Perigord, France. Combining a score by Olivier Messiaen with factual scenes and dialogue, the film depicts a secretive, curious and disconcerting rural practice, taking place in a rudimentary encampment of cages, wires and decoys. Interweaving the absurd and the sinister, the film captures the relationship between the hunters and the birds, force-feeding their prized stool-pigeons and sharing out their quarry at the end of the day.The film was made with the assistance of Channel 4’s FourDocs bursary scheme, and continues Cartwright & Jordan’s depiction of mankind’s disparate relationship with fellow species and the natural environment.

The film follows the work process of the choreographer and dancer Tamar Borer on her work "Bardo". Tamar was injured in a car accident which left her with legs she can't control and in a wheelchair for life. Since the accident she has been creating in spite of and from that handicap, forced to deal with a limitation she refuses to accept. In "Bardo" Tamar collaborates with additional artists: Harold Rubin, a veteran clarinet player, and Roy Sandrovich, a young acrobat, both brining their unique world into the work. The film accompanies Tamar from the early stages of primal thoughts on the piece till premiere night, through the indecisions, the tension between the three, the small moments at the rehearsals and the expectations. At the same time the film deals with the harsh issue with which Tamar confronts on a daily basis - dealing with the moving creation of an handicapped dancer.

I tried to transform these universal images into moving creatures halfway between synthetic and organic.
